On Saturday, I went CD shopping for the first time in months upon months. I got 3 albums:
1) Collideoscope by Living Colour — I’ve always liked these guys, so I have been meaning to pick this album up for a few months now. They are as exciting and interesting as always, but my first thought upon sticking this one in the player was “man this mix sucks”. That might have been due to the stock CD player in my station wagon, because it sounds OK in headphones now.
2) Laika Come Home by the Gorillaz (versus the Spacemonkeyz) — I had heard this was dub remixes of the hit Gorillaz album, but I wasn’t prepared for the overly reggae feel presented here. It is good dub, but I figured they’d do a more experimental twist on it .. like maybe something off of Bill Laswell’s compilation Axiom Dub, or even the Dub Pistols (not that I know anything about the Spacemonkeyz) . Anyway, I need to listen to it more, but I think it’s good.
3) The 3 E.P.’s by the Beta Band — This band is amazing, and these early recordings are some of their best. Listening to these, their first real solo album is even more of an oddity (That one has some sublimely nutzoid moments).
That reminds me, here is my cd list.
